Field Accountant – Bertoua, Cameroon


Position:  Field Accountant
Location:  Bertoua- Cameroon
Reports To:  Project Coordinator
Background  
Founded in 2004, Nascent Solutions is a non-profit, international development and humanitarian organization dedicated to building capacity for vulnerable people especially women and youth in Rural Africa to live self-fulfilling lives. We do this by building the capacity of target communities and local partners in the areas of agriculture and food security, literacy and skills development, basic health and child care and the protection of the rights of the woman and the child.
Nascent Solutions is seeking highly motivated young professional to fill the position of Field Accountant for a four month pilot project funded by the World Food Program (WFP) . The project is developed to provide basic education to farmers and grazers especially CAR refugees and indigenes in the Kette Sub-by on methods of securing farmland as well as strategies of creating and managing of improved pasture;

Duties and Responsibilities

 The employee in his capacity as Finance Officer shall be responsible for the following duties:
  • Management of financial resources in the field, ensuring that funds are used for intended purposes and are safeguarded against misuse or misappropriation according to Nascent  and WFP regulations and policies on financial management
  • Ensure the timely submission of financial reports and documents to HQ and or to donors
  • Certify the accuracy of financial reports and integrity of financial documents submitted for payment, to HQ and or to donors
  • Monitor budgets including general ledger accounts to ensure that the line item budgets are not exceeded without prior authorization from donor or HQ
  • Review and monitor internal control systems and procedures on a regular basis to ensure compliance, transparency and effective utilization of resources
  • Monitor cash and bank transactions
  • Analyze monthly or quarterly fluctuations in assigned accounts for internal reporting and propose necessary adjusting entries
  • Respond to financial information requests
  • Participate in trainings development by HQ
Other Duties
  • Support country  staff in identifying problem areas, and developing work plans to resolve these
  • Monitor implementation of action/corrective action plans relative to both internal and external audits and report back to HQ
 Qualifications:
Degree in accounting with three (3) years experience in fund accounting prefered, including subsidiary ledgers, AP/AR/PR, cost allocation, and cash management. Multi government funding a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office for Windows and Excel. Knowledge of Quickbooks or similar accounting package required. Proficiency in English, ( an additional language is a plus) Excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills with ability to follow through.
Attributes:
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to  multiple tasks, ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
