The African Union, established as a unique Pan-African continental body, ischarged with
spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development bypromoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples ofAfrica and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide.Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia In seekingto achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacityto deliver by, among others, the implementation of a new organizationalstructure and the filling of all vacant posts.

  1. Main duties and responsibilities

·      Assistingto prepare, develop, organize, coordinate and ensure implementation of actionsplans and implement program and activities of the ECOSOCC Secretariat;
·      Assistingthe process of ECOSOCC link.ages with the AU Commission and policy organs,other component of AU, governance and development agencies in Africa andcounterpart agencies of ECOSOCC in other regional bodies;
·      Assistingin support of ECOSOCC election process;
·      Assistingwith the implementation of the Sectoral Cluster of ECOSOCC;
·      Assistingwith basic research or monitoring and follow-up of decisions on theECOSOCCinctuding Desk Operations;
·      Assistingin the organization of meetings, conferences, consultations with other agenciesand partners as required;
·      Assistingin planning and preparation of budgets;
·      Preparingreports, briefs, outlines, speaking notes and papers on crucial and sensitiveissues of concern to the SupervIsor and/or Secretariat and Directorate;
·      Writeletters, documents, speeches and other correspondence as required by supervisor;
·      Performother duties as assigned by the Director or other supervisors as designated;




  1. Educational Qualifications

AMaster's degree in Social Science, Political Science, sociology or otherrelevant fields. In exceptional cases, candidates with a university degree andstrong expertise in civil society management combined with adequate policyexperience will be considered.

4.     WORK EXPERIENCE


Have at least 3 yearsof post-qualification experience in national, regional or international areas,with special emphasis on policy analysis and civil society matters andconcerns.

5.     OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:


Haveexcellent drafting skills. Fluency in one official AU language. Have computerskills. Must be able to work under pressure, particularly as a professionalcivil servant in a multi-cultural environment. Demonstrate professionalism andability to undertake studies and analytical skills associated with gooddecision-making. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

6.     LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

Proficiency in one of the African Union workinglanguages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be anadded advantage.

7.     AGE REQUIREMENT:

 Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35years old.

8.     TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:


The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three(3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationaryperiod. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable,subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

9.    Candidatesfrom the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti,Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTomeand Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

11. Remuneration: : Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum plus other relatedentitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40 perineum), educationallowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for everyeligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc forinternationally recruited staff of the Commission.
