About the Job: 
Making Cents International is seeking a Specialist - Economic Opportunities. S/he will co-develop and implement programming around the world across Making Cents’ three impact areas—financial services, market access, and workforce development. In particular, the Specialist will enhance the inclusiveness of existing programs, making them more relevant and more accessible for Making Cents’ target beneficiary groups—marginalized populations including youth, women, and small-holder farmers.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain partnerships with field-based project leaders and direct service delivery staff;
  • Provide short-term technical assistance in  workforce development, financial services, and market access;
  • Design and conduct needs assessments and/or build the capacity of local teams to conduct assessments. This includes the development of sampling parameters, design of participatory assessment tools, collection, interpretation, and analysis of data;
  • Contribute to the design of and planning for packages of technical assistance based on clients’ demands and needs and Making Cents’ best practices in capacity building, product design, and inclusion;
  • Contribute to and/or lead development and adaptation of curriculum and technical tools, often through co-creating such tools with clients’ project leaders and direct service delivery staff;
  • Co-design and lead training and capacity building workshops for field projects;
  • Contribute to project planning and/or monitoring and evaluation planning;
  • Develop communication pieces including reports, presentations, briefing documents, case studies, etc. as requested by clients and other Making Cents departments;
  • Actively seek and provide on-going coaching to other staff members on technical team processes and deliverables;
  • Contribute to technical approach of new business opportunities and proposals as requested;
  • Represent Making Cents, particularly in the field on project-based assignments.
Qualifications: 
  • Advanced degree in Training/Education, Business, Economics, Marketing, Policy, Public Administration, International Relations/Development or equivalent experience is preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience;
  • Knowledge and practical experience working in at least one of Making Cents’ three impact areas:  market access and enterprise development, inclusive financial services or workforce development;
  • Experience implementing technical assignments with marginalized populations, preferably youth, women, or smallholder farmers;
  • Project management, management consulting or strategy consulting experience;
  • Familiarity with the design or management of monitoring and evaluation systems, and/or experience conducting monitoring and evaluations; 
  • Working with USAID and other key funders (INGOs, foundations, multi-laterals);
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, credible presence, and verbal diplomacy;
  • Proficiency in English and a second widely used international language (French, Spanish, Arabic, etc.), French strongly preferred;
  • Valid US work permit required.
