The African Union, established as a unique Pan-African continental body, ischarged with
spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development bypromoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples ofAfrica and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide.Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia In seekingto achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacityto deliver by, among others, the implementation of a new organizationalstructure and the filling of all vacant posts.

  1. Main duties and responsibilities

·       Serve as focal point and provide support for all matters related to theDiaspora in the Caribbean, the US and North America and South. America;
·       Assisting to prepare, develop., organize and coordinate· the inputs of
           Governments.      Diaspora      communities,      civil       society       organization;
Intergovernmental bodies, international organizationswithin this area.
·       Assisting to monitor and analyze political and socio-economic developmentsrelated to the process;
·       Prepare reports, speaking notes, briefs, draft decisions and resolutionsand assist in the preparation and organization of meetings;
·       Assisting in ensuring follow-up actions and initiate and sustain linkageswith relevant bodies and AU representational offices in the region asappropriate;
·       Assisting. planning and preparing the budget and work program of the
            Division;
·       Assisting to organize programs for the development of the capabilities ofthe AU Member States and the Commission to strengthen the AU Diaspora program;
·       Write letters, documents, speeches and other correspondence to thesupervisor;
·       Provide information and make suggestions and recommendations
·       Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director or supervisor as Headof Division.


  1. Educational Qualifications

A minimum of a University Degree in Political Science,Social Science, Law. Economics, International Relations or any other cognatediscipline. An advanced university degree (Ph.D) will be an advantage.

4.     WORK EXPERIENCE


Have at least 3 years of post-qualification experience.National, regional or  internationalexperience in Diaspora related issues will be a distinct asset.

5.     OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:


Have excellent drafting skills. Fluency in one officialAU language. Have computer skills. Must be able to work under pressure,.Particularly as a professional civil servant in a multicultural environment.Demonstrate professionalism and ability to undertake studies and analyticalskills associated with good decision-making. Good communication andinterpersonal skills.

6.     LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

Proficiency in one of the African Union workinglanguages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be anadded advantage.

7.     AGE REQUIREMENT:

 Candidates mustpreferably be between 25 and 35 years old.

8.     TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:


The appointment will bemade on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with thefirst twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter,the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactoryperformance and deliverables.

9.    Candidatesfrom the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti,Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTomeand Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

11. Remuneration: : Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum plus other relatedentitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40 perineum),education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses forevery eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum),etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
