SNV is a Netherlands based international development organisation, with local presence in 38 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. SNV delivers capacity development services to local public and private organisations increasing access to basic services, income and employment. SNV works in 3 sectors: Agriculture, Renewable Energy (RE) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). SNV is present in Tanzania since 1971.
Purpose
The overall goal of SNV Tanzania RE sector is to contribute to improve the livelihoods of the rural and peri-urban people in Tanzania by accelerating the dissemination and use of renewable energy products and services. SNV Tanzania is involved in three renewable energy sub-sectors including Domestic Biogas; Improved Cook Stoves; and Solar Energy. Throughout these sub-sectors, SNV looks for market-based solutions to spur access to lighting and cooking energy at domestic level and for productive use. The SNV RE team spread over three locations Arusha, Mwanza and Dar es Salaam.
SNV Tanzania is now looking for an advisor to further strengthen the team, to be based in Arusha. The main activities of the successful candidate will be within the context of the biogas Milk Chilling programme in direct support of the Tanzania Domestic Biogas.
Responsibilities
  • Support and implement the project planning and monitoring framework by designing and supporting implementation of market studies for micro milk chilling in the countries and analyse / develop the “business case” for the new product;
  • Assisting in Design and support implementation of the field testing of the biogas milk chilling (BMC) prototypes in coordination with local partners;
  • Assisting in Establishing market linkages including key stakeholders (dairy and biogas private sector, farmers associations, microfinance agencies) and design and support implementation of the BMC marketing strategy;
  • Provide on-the-job technical assistance and advise to partners, local service providers (LCBs, consultants) and clients in the project.
  • Deliver quality information briefs and reports as input for knowledge development and sharing, while contributing in workshops and events to disseminate results and lessons learned.
  • Support establishment and maintenance of networks with relevant stakeholders at local, national and international level.
  • Support day-to-day management of the project, project operational plans, project budgets, budget depletion and reporting, in close coordination with the RE sector leader.
  • Contribute to strategic renewable energy sector positioning, improving relevance, efficiency and effectiveness of current and new SNV interventions in the RE sector, contributing to increased funding opportunities, actively supporting proposal development
Candidate profile
  • Academic level of engineering, specialization in energy, design or thermodynamics is an advantage;
  • Affinity / experience in technological innovation and setting up field tests in renewable energy and with dairy sector;
  • Affinity / experience in private sector development, product development, process facilitation and pro-poor growth approaches, taking into consideration social inclusion, gender and sustainability;
  • Affinity / experience in project design and project management;
  • Affinity with rural development in Africa.
Contract duration: 2 years

Accessibility: Arusha has an international airport which is served by regular flights from/to (inter)national destinations, including Amsterdam. The roads are good.
