About the Event:
This workshop will provide an overview of individual, group, and village banking models. Participants will learn about the credit, savings, and other financial products that MFIs offer to low-income individuals. Participants will also learn about why MFIs choose different operating models and offer specific financial services. The workshop will also examine major changes in the sector. Two specific examples of change that will be discussed are the shift away from the classic model made famous by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and the increasing focus on savings.
For anyone intrigued by the idea of microfinance, invest in organizations such as Kiva, and/or have a basic understanding of the field and want to learn more, this workshop is suitable. The workshop begins with an introduction to microfinance, so no previous background in is required.
The workshop is facilitated by Christoph Schultz, who currently works as the Program Director with Light Up The World and has more than 10 years of experience in international development. He has worked for and with microfinance institutions in locations such as Bangladesh (SafeSave), China (PlaNet Finance), and Guatemala (IMDI local microcredit association).
