Mercy Corps is seeking a Managing Director (MFI) - Kompanion, Myanmar. S/he will be responsible for creating a new microfinance institution, and will be the first position hired.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Communicate a clear vision of present and future program goals and strategies to team members and stakeholders that translates into concrete programs and work plans;
- Lead the strategy process and provide regular updates;
- Build a management and operational team, from loan officers to management, who can successfully build a sustainable MFI;
- Represent Mercy Corps at all microfinance-related activities in Myanmar and participate in the development of a country-wide microfinance community;
- Anticipate needs, understand donor pool, and contribute to shaping donor’s views on development;
- Work with media and communications teams to raise Mercy Corps’ profile as a microfinance leader in this space, particularly among new philanthropists, corporate partners, and social investors;
- Build partnerships and collaborate at all levels with stakeholders ranging from goverment officials, lenders/investors, other MFIs, partner NGOs including Mercy Corps head quarter and country office, bilateral/multilateral donors, investors, and others with a range of interests and priorities;
- Oversee the creation of a microfinance operating system, including lending and savings procedures, a management information system, financial compliance procedures, and other necessary policies, procedures, and tools to build a sustainable MFI;
- Apply Mercy Corps’ design and framework to the MFI and ensure effective, timely reporting systems for all donors
- Ensure effective, transparent use of resources in compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies/procedures;
- Oversee budget management
- Ability to balance between necessary innovation and operational and organizational stability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor, MBA, or Master in Finance or Economics, or similar degree is essential;
- At least 10 - 12 years of experience in design and/or implementation of microfinance services for the poor with a focus on rural, agricultural sector, and other economic development programming;
- Commercial banking experience a plus;
- Managing director, CEO, COO or senior management background with an MFI or financial services provider, start- up experience significant plus;
- Track record of driving innovations from development through early marketing, to successful market introduction, and product commercialization in a microfinance context;
- Demonstrated success in raising donor and investor capital, business development, and partnership development;
- Demonstrated leadership in advancing organizational strategy and stated objectives;
- Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational prioritization skills are necessary;
- Experience working overseas in relief and/or development context;
- Experience with assessments, monitoring, and evaluation and design;
- Experience managing and working with diverse teams;
- Fluency in English required.
