Job Mission:
Mission: •To develop and manage the Enterprise Business Unit product and services portfolio and/project delivery process for current & new products aligned to CEBO roadmap. •Design and identify platform strategy for new & existing projects in conjunction with IT and NWG •Design and identify platform strategy for new & existing projects in conjunction with General Manager: Products & Services in EBU SA Opco and Group EBU Key Performance Areas: Product Strategic Planning •Define Enterprise Business Unit’s overall products and services portfolio and strategy and align it to EBU SA’s strategy, mission and vision. Ensure it aligns with Group technology, procurement and business strategy. Leverage and ensure MTN Group Product Development strategy supports the development of synergy and scale especially with regards the MTN SA Product and Services function. •Leverage & ensure that Customer Implementation, MTN SA Opco & Group EBU strategies supports development of synergy and scale, especially for Enterprise Business Unit and EBU SA by association. •Develop and maintain a strategy for respective products and services including a short, medium and long term forecast for product performance (revenue and profitability) •Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities in cooperation with Enterprise Marketing on go-to-market initiatives •Specify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers in cooperation with Enterprise Marketing and Business Intelligence. •Drive a solution set across development teams through market requirements, partnerships and product contract management. •Analyse potential partner relationships for the product- •Identify areas where value can be added / exploited further, areas where value is being destroyed and areas where value is latent, and act accordingly •Consider future consequences of actions on the viability of the business. Discuss the current environment and how this will impact Enterprise Business Unit as a business both now and in the future •Develop a model for expanding EBU’s business model beyond traditional mobile voice and data, specifically in the ICT space. Product •Collate product development roadmap and articulate and challenge with segment and offer managers the product development needs, requirements and implementation •Monitor and assess market, competitors and technological advancements and, when applicable, propose the development of products and services relevant to the portfolio •Manage respective products and services and portfolio and design and implement action plans to drive take up, usage and profitability •Ensure dissemination of technical information and demonstration capacity to sales teams and supply of adequate information to Clients •Articulate with relevant offer managers product promotion and attainment of revenue and profitability targets •Drive differentiation and growth through the development and management of optimal and innovative product portfolios •Together with Marketing Support, Sales and Service and segment managers, predict future opportunities in terms of products and innovations based on a segmented approach •Take ownership of the Product Catalogue and all product definitions
KPA Duties:
Voice and Messaging, Mobile Data and Enterprise Solutions • Consolidate all development requirements for products and services development • Programme-manage delivery of projects and products relevant to the portfolio (planning, scheduling, controlling and risk management), following segment and product managers’ requirements and brand guidelines, namely in which concerns user experience • Articulate with relevant areas (e.g. NWG/ IS/ CSSO) product implementation and act as focal point of contact • Liaise with segment/ product managers, technical areas and suppliers and propose development of products and services and features relevant to the portfolio • Report on results, including compilation of periodical activity, budget compliance and feedback reports Product Delivery and Quality and Project Management •Programme-manage delivery of products and projects transversal to multiple Products and Services teams •Manage products and projects quality and ensure delivery of internal clients and end-user requirements •Define, and ensure compliance with, adequate processes and systems for timeous delivery and quality of projects, including relevant products and projects’ documentation •Assure proper functioning of all cross-functional processes •Report on results, including compilation of periodical activity, budget compliance and feedback reports •Drive Business Information requirements and data definitions for products and services •Accountable for the end-to-end Product development process including post-launch experience •Chair cross-functional product development forum attended by all key stakeholders in product development process •Own and evolve the design of the Product Requirements Documentation and database •Lifecycle management of product: continuously evaluate the viability of EBU’s products and services portfolio and drive the retiring of non-viable products •Represent EBU at the relevant CESA forums •Improve the delivery of products and projects, and put in place a Product Development Framework with properly defined milestones and governance process to ensure viable and essential products are taken to market. Portal and Market Innovation •Develop innovative portal and interactive strategies, in alignment with strategy, including a short, medium and long term forecast for portal performance (revenue and profitability) • Ensure alignment with MTN SA OpCo’s Portal strategy • Develop portal products and services, driven by segment and product managers and market requirements • Monitor and assess market, competitors and technological advancements and lead the development of relevant portal products and services • Research and alert Enterprise Marketing and Business Intelligence to trends in the market place both locally and globally influencing the nature of the products to be developed and future technologies, • Identify and define future products which will create a competitive edge for EBU • Manage a cross-functional team to convert ideas into demonstrations of real business concepts • Co-develop and manage the innovation process within Customer Solution team, MTN SA Opco Products & Services team and ensure alignment with Group EBU innovation initiatives and commercial roadmap • Evaluate, propose and negotiate third party applications on the website/ portals and oversee delivery assurance Budget Management •Forecast, plan and develop business cases that provide EBU with return on investment, and seek CEBO approval thereof •Manage and optimise the budget, ensuring all expenditure is in line with the agreed budgets •Manage Capex delivery process and present at the Capex steercom and board meetings together with technology areas Operations (Systems, Processes and Procedures) •Develop and integrate new means with established systems / practices and terminates those which no longer support the strategy and mission •Provide a broad framework to ensure resources are obtained, used and coordinated in a way that allows the company to achieve its mission Stakeholder management •Educating stakeholders on EBU’s value propositions •Engaging stakeholders and media on enquiries with regard to product •Ensure that all regulatory requirements are accounted for in product design
Requirements:
Education: •Engineering degree
Experience: •10 to 15 years’ experience leading product management and product development in the telecommunications industry with a strong mobile and ICT bias •More than five years of senior leadership in similar positions, in fast-moving companies and contexts •Proven track record of successful management of broad product portfolio and significant number of successful product launches •High technical acumen •Exposure to Business/ Marketing/Commercial concepts preferably via postgraduate qualification in Engineering or Business Administration
