Background
Under the Rural Youth Economic Empowerment program, Making Cents International (Making Cents) will increase employment and self-employment of young people aged 15-35 from 2013-2016 in four countries the Middle East and North Africa. This will be achieved by improving the capacity of local organizations to provide relevant and accessible financial and non-financial services to youth in rural areas. This program is co-funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Silatech, Making Cents International, and others. In Yemen, Making Cents'€™ local partner is Al Amal micro-finance bank (AMB). Al Amal is a leading MFI with a proven record for providing innovative services to low-income people in Yemen.
About the Job: 
Making Cents International is looking for a Specialist - Youth Financial Services. S/he will be responsible for providing targeted technical assistance to Al Amal’s R&D and operations departments in support of AMB’s goal to provide young clients in rural areas with access to appropriate financial and non-financial services. Making Cents’ technical assistance approach relies on ground-testing assumptions through qualitative focus groups and key-informant interviews, step-by-step accompaniment, and facilitating joint decision making in order to ensure institutional buy-in. The Specialist will use these or similar methodologies in order to advance his/her work with AMB.The Specialist will be able to draw on support from colleagues on the technical team and Making Cents technical leaders and advisers in order to implement his/her technical assistance activities.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide technical assistance through:
    • Supporting Al Amal in the design and implementation of market research in order to better understand the needs of target youth population;
    • Working with Al Amal to interpret, analyze and translate market research findings into financial products that are in-line with AMB’s rural finance strategy;
    • Surfacing key areas of alignment and misalignment between Reyada, AMB’s partner non-financial institute, and AMB in an effort to better coordinate the provision of both financial and non-financial services to targeted youth;
    • Supporting to Reyada to more systematically communicate their current rural expansion strategy.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Advanced degree in Training/Education, Business, Economics, Marketing, Policy, Public Administration, International Relations/Development or equivalent experience preferred.
