INVESTMENT OFFICER


About the Job:
MICS is seeking an Investment Officer for the newly established impact investment fund for the Sub-Saharan African region. The new fund is meant to focus on profitable and social investment opportunities in the impact areas (microfinance, microinsurance, microhousing, SMEs) of selected sectors, including but not limited to agriculture, education, health, and financial service providers. S/he will report to the director of the fund management. S/he will be responsible for the successful generation, management, and solicitation of profitable investment projects that meet the social standards of the fund. This position is for a 2-year contract with a possibility of extension. This position is based in the Lagos City of Nigeria.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Identify and keep informed about new profitable business opportunities and investment products that meet the social standards of the fund. This includes maintaining up-to-date information on local investment markets, development plans, industry trends, and competitor practices;
  • Act as catalyst in mobilizing domestic and foreign resources for investment in the private sector through co-financing operations with other investors;
  • Provide expertise in the origination, analysis, critical risk assessment, negotiation, underwriting, and closing of investment businesses that meet established objectives of the fund;
  • Provide evaluation of project proposals to assess their feasibility for financial assistance. This involves the initial screening of project applications, carrying out of desk reviews, and evaluation of feasibility studies;
  • Assist in the management of the portfolio projects and execute transactions;
  • Build relationships with new investors and clients and expanding existing networks;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • MBA or equivalent. Preferably an Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Finance;
  • At least 4 years experience in finance/investment;
  • General understanding of economies, financial markets, appraisal techniques, and cash flow and financial statement analysis;
  • Strong financial, credit, and structuring skills;
  • Knowledge of relevant industry sector trends;
  • Knowledge of impact investments and regional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa will be an advantage;
  • Possess skills in business development, marketing, and negotiation;
  • Possess interpersonal and client relationship skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral formats in English and French.
