Digital Finance Insights Specialist - MicroSave Kenya

About the Job: 
MicroSave is seeking Digital Finance Insights Specialist. S/he will be responsible for business execution, human capital development, business development, and organizational development. The position is based in Nairobi.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Business execution:
    • Agent network accelerator (ANA) project;
    • Project management:
      • Manage external firms brought in for research support plus a team of analysts, and qualitative and quantitative research specialists;
      • Mentor internal team on professional and communication skills;
      • Manage the tool design, preparation, and data collection process for the ANA project;
      • Manage the data analysis process for the ANA project.
    • Information synthesis:
      • Serve as a team guru on data being produced on the DFS ecosystem, with a specific focus on the intermedia and brandfusion projects, and the work being done by leading institutions in the gates eight countries;
      • Lead on positioning ANA findings in the greater discussion of cutting edge DFS issues emerging from the data being produced from these institutions/in these geographies;
      • Lead the publication of synthesis reports, country reports, provider reports, blogs, and other publication formats.
    • Research advisory:
      • Help share methods, techniques, tools, and best practices in research with other related organization’s projects.
  • Human capital development:
    • Ensure that organization has the right human capital in the right place to implement the regional strategy and project strategy;
    • Mentor/train high potential staff to grow/develop professionally;
    • Provide on-going support to staff as and when needed.
  • Business development:
    • Read and post relevant articles on organizations and helix websites;
    • Represent organization at conferences, workshops, seminars etc.;
    • Write key documents to highlight organization’s strengths, learnings etc.;
    • Participate in digital media dialogues (blogs and discussions forums) linking organization’s work and publications;
    • Build relationships with potential clients;
    • Develop and submit proposals to generate business – particularly for the domain that s/he is leading or part of.
  • Organizational development:
    • Participate in the development, evolution, and communication of the institutional strategy and business plan;
    • Develop organization’s business development capabilities;
    • Ensure maintenance of organizational culture, values, and reputation.
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Research, Economics, Management, Science, Policy or a related field;
  • At least 3-6 years of project management experience in the developing world;
  • Strong theoretical understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies;
  • Excellent writing skills, with a track record of publications (ideally both online and print);
  • Superior analytical skills, ability to identify trends in data, and easily synthesize large quantities of information;
  • Working understanding of academic methodologies for quantitative research and statistical analysis, including randomized controlled trials, and quasi-experimental techniques;
  • Demonstrated ability to managing teams, ideally multiple teams in developing world environments conducting research;
  • Sophisticated planning, organizational, and time management skills, including flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet changing deadlines;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills of a high order, including the ability to formulate recommendations and advice;
  • Highly developed computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent quality English speaking and writing ability and a professional demeanour;
  • Flexibility and willingness/ability to travel if necessary.
