Senior Technical Advisor, Social Marketing Domestic | Washington, DC, United States

PSI seeks a Social Marketing Technical Advisor to support its social marketing programs throughout the world. The Advisor is expected to have significant experience in private sector consumer and/or pharmaceutical marketing, preferably in emerging economies.  She or he will provide in-country technical assistance (up to 40% travel) as well as long-distance support (e.g., via email, phone calls and Skype).

The Advisor will be expected to learn the ‘PSI way’ of doing social marketing, but also will add value by applying his/her experience to drive new marketing and operating discipline at our country-level programs resulting in more productive and efficient health impact outputs.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist with the development and implementation of marketing plans for consumer and ethical products and services, including related strategies for pharmaceutical social franchise networks, behavior change communications, trade marketing, and provider behavior change activities.<u
  • Drive the adoption of efficient and cost-effective sales and distribution networks in consumer and pharmaceutical channels.<u
  • Coordinate with research teams to provide useful marketing & behavioral evidence leading to evolved marketing strategies and effective monitoring. <u
  • Increase the capacity of country marketing & research teams to better understand how to incorporate total market approach strategies within the marketing plans.<u
  • Provide marketing teams with international best practices in advertising and communication interventions.<u
  • Develop guidance documents and tools for marketing best practices and approaches.<u
  • Advise technical health teams regarding the marketing aspects of developing and launching new products.<u
  • Improve the Company’s knowledge management, collecting examples of excellent marketing from the field and sharing with the rest of the Company. <u
  • Other marketing functions as required.<u


QUALIFICATIONS: <u
  • Experience with marketing and qualitative & quantitative research studies.
  • MBA in marketing or related subject preferred with at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to combine an entrepreneurial attitude with grounded, evidence-based decision making.
  • A good balance of creative and innovative thinking coupled with strategic, analytic and practical skills to develop and implement marketing strategies that generate tangible outcomes.
  • Must have exceptional results orientation, with a high degree of personal initiative and leadership, in a minimal resource environment.
  • Must have strong consumer and/or pharmaceutical experience, with proven ability of translating insights into winning marketing plans and a high degree of creativity to find new, compelling ways to reach and communicate to consumers.
  • Experience working in multiple emerging economy contexts including ability to form   productive cross-cultural work relationships.
  • Skilled in analysis and problem solving with excellent project management skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and to lead small groups to consensus.
  • Ability to present information persuasively to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish a plus.
