The mandate of Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) is to grow the value of Rio Tinto by discovering or acquiring resources that can increase future cash-flows. The objective in RTX is to discover one Tier 1 resource each year.


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Regional Finance & Compliance Manager, as the Regional Accountant, you will manage day to day accounting requirements of a number of entities in Southern Africa, including general ledger maintenance, tax accounting, asset registers and any other local, country and or regional technical and administrative accounting requirements . The role is also responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality financial reporting, and variance and financial analysis to the London head office and to external stakeholders.


JOB OBJECTIVES:

Management, either directly or indirectly, of other regional finance staff as appropriate

Manage all aspects of the general ledger in compliance with Rio Tinto standards, policies and procedures as well as local requirements

Manage cash requirements

Manage the preparation of local, annual, financial statements including liaising with external auditors

Manage the preparation of RTX monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial and management information

Manage the budgeting and forecasting process

Ensure adherence to responsible business practices with appropriate segregation of duties and delegated financial authorities

Manage the management reporting requirements of the region

Manage new country entries when required

Managing individual and team performance to achieve individual and organisation results

Growing capability and talent to meet current and future organisation needs

Providing leadership in HSEC by anticipating current and future risks and managing these risks

Managing all HSEC related activities by setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met

Managing all compliance related activities by setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Finance or relevant qualification Minimum 2 years experience as a Chartered Accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA/CPA) 3 to 5 years relevant experience in a small to medium sized organisation within the resource sector would be advantageous Knowledge of SAP advantageous Computer literate in MS Office Suite Highly proficient in English (verbal and written) Commitment to safe work practices Ability to undertake limited amounts of travel.
