General Manager -Proximity Finance Myanmar


About the Organization: 
Proximity Designs is a nonprofit organization founded in 2004. It aims to improve lifestyle and boost income of rural people in Myanmar through its income generating product and services.
About the Job: 
Proximity Designs is looking for a General Manager for its subsidiary Proximity Finance. S/he will be responsible for implementing the philosophy, mission, strategic goals, and objectives of the organization. His/her role will also encompass the governance function, providing direction, and leadership toward the achievement of agreed financial targets and guiding the business through the transformation from a business unit within an NGO to a stand-alone, commercial entity.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • In concert with the senior management team at Proximity Designs, develop the overall strategy, including target customers, products and services, distribution channels, technology, and strategic partners;
  • Identify and evaluate other potential funding options and strategic partners, and develop relationships with key funders;
  • Responsible for day-to-day communications with regulators and maintaining constructive relations with government officials, including the groundwork for Proximity Finance to become a stand-alone entity;
  • Management of the head of operations and oversight of back office development, including: systems, processes, risk management, and compliance;
  • Overall responsible for HR strategy, including recruitment, retention, and motivation strategies for Proximity Finance staff;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to meet objectives to the dedicated Proximity Finance team, and the managers shared with Proximity Designs in HR, finance, sales, and marketing;
  • Establish and maintain appropriate organizational structures, functions, and processes to achieve objectives;
  • Enterprise risk management.
Qualifications: 
  • At least 10 years of microfinance experience in developing countries;
  • Successful track record in building and leading microfinance businesses and teams in challenging, multi-cultural environments;
  • Experience introducing ground breaking technologies or business models for financial inclusion;
  • Experience with mobile money in a developing country is an advantage;
  • Extensive HR experience;
  • Experience in managing the transition from an NGO/social business to a for-profit.
