Chief Operations Officer


About the Organization: 
Agora Microfinance Zambia Limited (AMZ) is a licensed microfinance lending company that currently operates in the Western and Central provinces of the country. The mission of AMZ is to c˜ontribute to the economic well-being of the poor through effective provision of appropriate financial services.
About the Job: 
AMZ is seeking a Chief Operations Officer. S/he will be responsible for lending operations of the company. S/he will be involved in development of the overall instutional strategy and plans, and in the implementation of the strategy.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Planning of branch and organizational growth and expansion strategies, product development and refinement, branch staffing, etc.;
  • Supporting the branch teams in implementation of their respective plans;
  • Regular monitoring and strengthening of the quality of branch operations;
  • Ensuring a high degree of compliance with company's operations and other policies;
  • Ensuring timely and accurate flow of information at all levels in operations;
  • Reporting to the senior management, board, and others on progress;
  • Reviewing and fine-tuning of plans and policies from time to time;
  • Prompt re-adressal of findings, both internal (departmental) or by auditors, raters or other entities that might assess operations from time to time;
  • Ensure effective coordination with other departments in the company, including MIS/IT, finance, internal audit, research, HR, and general administration;
  • Work closely with research department to covert into operation, the results from client level research, in refining product attributes and if required, in the designing of new products and services.
Qualifications: 
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing or related field;
  • At least 7 years of experience in a senior management position, preferably within the microfinance, banking or a related industry;
  • Good knowledge and experience of microfinance operations and service delivery maintenance;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Willingness to travel extensively;
  • Good leadership, supervision, and analytical skills.
