This position is responsible for all phases of the monthly and quarterly closing and budgeting process for LDC Sugar Merchandising.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Monthly and Quarterly Accounting Close Process
• On a monthly basis, prepares analyses of all balance sheet and P&L accounts. Through interactions with the Controller and the trading team, completes a quarterly gross margin analysis, including average sales price and volumes
• Completes the monthly close for the sugar merchandising (trading) company.
• Completes all monthly balance sheet and P&L reconciliations, including inventories, open contracts, futures and option portions (including margining) and books all related month-end journal entries
• Reconciles all intercompany transactions with LDC’s sugar manufacturing company (Imperial), as well as other global and regional counterparts using LDC’s intercompany system, ICS.
• Uploads daily and monthly trading activity recorded in ITAS (trading database) into AX (general ledger system), and reconciles the two systems.
• Books and analyzes G&A accounts vs. budget for reasonableness and accuracy.
• Populates monthly management and quarterly management and statutory reporting packages using LDC’s reporting package, Magnitude.
• Prepares quarterly analytical presentations and performs other ad hoc projects for the Accounting Manager and Controller, as needed.

• Troubleshoots accounting related issues in ITAS, including reconciliation differences between data received from traders and amounts reported in ITAS.

Additional Responsibilities

EXPERIENCE
Two (plus) years of accounting or analysis experience is required. Accounting or analysis experience in a commodity trading firm is preferred.
SKILLS
• Knowledge of General Ledger accounting practices, specifically account reconciliations, accruals and journal entries applicable to for-profit businesses
• Understanding of P&L data
• Ability to recognize variances in accounts
• Advanced level of proficiency in MS Excel
• Strong documentation skills
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple tasks to accommodate strict deadlines
• Strong analytical skills
• Proficiency with commodity accounting and contract systems such as ITAS and an understanding of basic trading concepts is preferred.
